Registered therapists

Every clinician is registered with a regulatory college — the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), or the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).

Sliding scale options

We want therapy to be financially accessible for everyone. Reduced rates are available case-by-case based on need and availability.

Direct billing

We submit directly to most major insurers, so you don't pay out of pocket upfront.

Ottawa-based and Canadian-owned

Our office is in Ottawa. All client records are stored in Canada and handled under PIPEDA and PHIPA.

What brings Kanata clients to therapy

A few reasons people from this part of the city end up here.

FOR WHEN SOMETHING FEELS OFF

Functioning, and running on empty

Deadlines still get met and nobody has noticed anything is wrong. Burnout often looks like competence right up until it doesn't.

The commute makes it unlikely

Close to half an hour down the 417 each way, more at rush hour, turns a 50-minute session into a two-hour round trip. Virtual removes that entirely, and it's how many people in this part of the city prefer to work.

Hybrid work got quiet

Fewer people, more screens, and a working week that can pass without a real conversation. The isolation creeps up on people who never considered themselves isolated.

How therapy works at Auren Wellness

OUR APPROACH

For many Kanata clients, secure video is a genuine preference rather than a compromise. A session between meetings, from home or a booked room at the office, removes a round trip of close to an hour.

When in person matters, the Centrepointe office is a straightforward run east on the 417 and outside the downtown core — around twenty-five to thirty minutes outside of rush hour, and longer when the 417 backs up.

What people bring us from Kanata is often burnout, anxiety, sleep that has stopped working, perfectionism and overthinking, and the sense of being high-functioning and quietly depleted. We also work with couples where one or both partners are in demanding roles. Our therapists draw on evidence-based approaches such as CBT and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), adapting to what you bring rather than applying a fixed protocol.

Insurance, Billing, and What to Expect

Insurance coverage

Registered Psychotherapist and Registered Social Worker services are covered by most extended health plans in Canada. We recommend confirming your specific coverage before your first paid session. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield, and most major insurers include coverage.

Direct billing

We direct-bill where your insurer allows it. Otherwise, you pay at the time of session and submit the receipt for reimbursement.

Receipts

Every session generates a receipt listing the provider's license number, suitable for insurance reimbursement.

In-person or virtual

In-person sessions are held at our Ottawa office. Virtual sessions use a secure, PIPEDA-compliant video platform. You can switch between the two.

Cancellation

We ask for 24 hours notice on cancellations. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged the full session fee.

Your first session

After the free 15-minute consultation, your first paid session is intake-focused. Bring questions, anything you have already tried, and any goals you have in mind.

QUESTIONS

Common Questions About Therapy in Kanata

1

Is there a therapist near Kanata?

+

Most of our Kanata clients work with us by secure video, which is available anywhere in Ontario. In-person sessions are at our Centrepointe office, a straightforward run east on the 417 and outside the downtown core.

2

How far is Centrepointe from Kanata?

+

It is about 15 kilometres, which is roughly twenty-five to thirty minutes outside of rush hour and can approach an hour when the 417 backs up. That round trip is why most Kanata clients choose video.

3

Do you offer therapy for work burnout?

+

Yes. Burnout, chronic stress, sleep that has stopped working, and perfectionism are among the most common things Kanata clients bring. Burnout often arrives late, after months of functioning well enough that nobody noticed.

4

How much does therapy cost in Kanata?

+

Sessions start at $175, depending on the therapist you see. Sliding-scale spots are available with select therapists, and we direct bill where your insurer allows. Fees are confirmed at your free 15-minute consult.

5

Can I claim therapy through my workplace benefits?

+

Many extended health and workplace plans cover psychotherapy, though they differ on whether they reimburse Registered Psychotherapists, Registered Social Workers, or both. It is worth checking which credential your plan names before booking. Psychotherapy is not covered by OHIP.

6

Can I have a therapy session during the workday?

+

Yes, and it is common. A video session between meetings, from home or a booked room at the office, removes the travel entirely. Our hours run 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, with individual therapists setting their availability within that.

7

Do I need a referral to see a therapist in Ontario?

+

No. You can book directly with a Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Social Worker without a doctor's referral. Some insurance plans ask for one before reimbursing, so check your policy.

8

Is virtual therapy private and secure?

+

Sessions are held over a secure video platform, and the same confidentiality obligations apply as they would in the room. Your therapist will explain the limits of confidentiality at the start, including the specific situations where Ontario law requires disclosure.

9

How quickly can I get a first appointment?

+

We usually respond the same day during business hours, and the free 15-minute consult can often be arranged within a few days. Timing for a first full session depends on which therapist you are matched with.

10

Do you work with couples where both partners have demanding jobs?

+

Yes. Scheduling around two demanding roles is part of why many couples here work with us by video. Common themes include distance that has built up during busy stretches, and conversations that have narrowed to logistics.
