Registered therapists

Every clinician is registered with a regulatory college — the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), or the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).

Sliding scale options

We want therapy to be financially accessible for everyone. Reduced rates are available case-by-case based on need and availability.

Direct billing

We submit directly to most major insurers, so you don't pay out of pocket upfront.

Ottawa-based and Canadian-owned

Our office is in Ottawa. All client records are stored in Canada and handled under PIPEDA and PHIPA.

What brings people here before a diagnosis

Therapy is a space to slow down and look at what's underneath. These are some of the patterns people bring into the room.

FOR WHEN SOMETHING FEELS OFF

The algorithm diagnosed you first

The videos are relatable; they're also not a clinical opinion. The truth is usually somewhere between "everyone's like that" and "this explains everything", and it's worth finding out properly.

The wait for answers is long

Getting a formal diagnosis can take real time and persistence. Waiting is easier with support, and the day-to-day struggles don't pause while you queue, so neither should help.

You want to start somewhere

You don't need a label to work on the unstarted tasks and the self-blame. "Something's going on" is enough to start with; sorting out what it is can be part of the work.

How we support you while you seek answers

OUR APPROACH

First, the honest boundaries: nobody at Auren can diagnose ADHD, and nobody here prescribes medication. A formal diagnosis comes from your family doctor, a nurse practitioner, or a psychologist, and if that's what you're seeking, that's the road. What we can do is make the road shorter, clearer, and far less lonely.

Where it's helpful, and as part of therapy, we can work through a structured review of your symptoms and history using recognized screening tools, then put together a written summary for you to take to your doctor — so you arrive organized rather than starting from 'I saw a video.' Screening is not assessment: it supports your path to a diagnosis, it doesn't replace it. Some of our therapists are also comfortable coordinating with prescribers if medication becomes part of your plan.

And therapy itself doesn't wait for paperwork. The difficulties are real now, so we work on them now: starting, finishing, time, the self-criticism. Everything learned holds regardless of what the eventual answer turns out to be, including if it turns out not to be ADHD.

Insurance, Billing, and What to Expect

Insurance coverage

Registered Psychotherapist and Registered Social Worker services are covered by most extended health plans in Canada. We recommend confirming your specific coverage before your first paid session. Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield, and most major insurers include coverage.

Direct billing

We direct-bill where your insurer allows it. Otherwise, you pay at the time of session and submit the receipt for reimbursement.

Receipts

Every session generates a receipt listing the provider's license number, suitable for insurance reimbursement.

In-person or virtual

In-person sessions are held at our Ottawa office. Virtual sessions use a secure, PIPEDA-compliant video platform. You can switch between the two.

Cancellation

We ask for 24 hours notice on cancellations. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged the full session fee.

Your first session

After the free 15-minute consultation, your first paid session is intake-focused. Bring questions, anything you have already tried, and any goals you have in mind.

QUESTIONS

Common Questions About Getting Answers

1

Can you tell me whether I have ADHD?

+

No. Nobody at Auren can diagnose ADHD. What we can do as part of therapy is clinical screening with validated tools and a structured symptom review, and prepare a summary you bring to your doctor. The formal answer comes from your family doctor, a nurse practitioner, or a psychologist.

2

What's the path to an ADHD diagnosis in Ontario?

+

For most people it starts with their family doctor or a nurse practitioner, who may handle it themselves or refer onward; psychologists also provide formal diagnoses, typically privately. Routes and wait times vary; arriving with an organized picture of your history and symptoms tends to make every version of the conversation more productive.

3

What if it turns out not to be ADHD?

+

Then you'll know, and nothing is wasted. The difficulties that brought you in are real either way, everything built in therapy still applies, and whatever is actually going on (sleep, anxiety, burnout, life load) becomes the clearer target.

4

Do I need a referral to see a therapist in Ontario?

+

No. You can book directly with a Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Social Worker without a doctor's referral. Some insurance plans ask for one before reimbursing, so it is worth checking your policy.

5

Is therapy covered by OHIP in Ontario?

+

Psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Social Worker is not covered by OHIP. Many extended health and workplace benefit plans cover it, though plans differ on which credentials they reimburse. Check whether yours covers RP, RSW, or both.

6

Can I do sessions online?

+

Yes. Our therapists offer secure video sessions to clients anywhere in Ontario, and many people mix virtual and in-person visits depending on the week. Everything discussed stays confidential either way.
